Previous Work Experience

SOFTWARE ARCHITECT
July 2001 – October 2008
PricewaterhouseCoopers
Albany, NY / Miami, FL

Leadership
Technical leader for the team which developed SMART2.o, a suite of commercial healthcare applications used by hospitals for ensuring compliant coding and billing accuracy. I was involved in the full life cycle of the product from gathering and negotiating requirements, to design, development and deployment. I established coding standards, conducted design and code reviews, mentored junior engineers, provided time and resource estimates, and led other engineers indeveloping significant parts of the products.

Architecture

  • Part of the team that designed the architecture for the SMART2.o products, an n-tier architecture based on COM+, SQL Server and IIS.
  • Designed and developed part of the framework used for all SMART2.o products, such as error handling, security, auditing, logging, etc.
  • I took the initiative and started migrating our architecture from the VS 6 technologies to an Object Oriented Architecture based on VS.NET framework, an architecture that is scalable and flexible to support multiple UIs such as Web and Windows. I constructed prototypes for both platforms and a document outlining the business and technical advantages of using the new architecture.

Programming
SMART 2.o Inpatient and Outpatient

  • Designed the web user interface for SMART2.o
  • Designed and developed several components: both generic components that can be reused across products (Security and Authentication, Auditing, Search and XML based Data Parsing) as well as specific components for SMART 2.o Inpatient and Outpatient (Inpatient Health Records, Healthcare Codes, Data Import/Export).
  • Designed a dynamic rules engine used to analyze data and flag medical records based upon given criteria.
  • Created a tool to perform the automated build process for SMART 2.o

Web Site Development

  • Designed and developed the first iteration of the public web site for the SMART2.o products.
  • Developed the first iteration of the extranet web site used for supporting the SMART2.o customers

Training and Mentoring

  • Taught various classes on internal development standards including coding standards, source control, and how to use the SMART2.o framework.
  • Mentored several developers new to the project team

Customer Service

  • Responsible for third level customer service and technical support of SMART2.o
  • Installed SMART2.o at customers’ sites

Architecture

  • I was a member of the architectural analysis team for Practicity's flagship product
  • Delivered a proof of concept using Java and the J2EE architecture to replace the Windows/COM architecture
  • Developed part of the infrastructure for Practicity using the J2EE architecture

Programming
Practicity—a web-enabled knowledge sharing and collaboration application

  • Designed and developed a large portion of the core middleware component, the Knowledge Object Server, an object broker that deals with relational databases mapped against installable COM objects, and application services such as security, auditing and searching. The development environment used was Delphi
  • Implemented business objects that use the Knowledge Object Server
  • Developed a CGI application to provide the browser/server interface for Practicity

  • Developed NT LAN manager and LDAP security libraries for account synchronization with the authentication database using Visual C++
  • Designed, wrote and tested the conversion and installation programs for different versions of the software
  • Abstracted and developed several OLE Automation components to facilitate better reuse and versioning among various company-wide applications Knowledge Management and Knowledge Repository Application
  • Developed the majority of a browser/server application used to search and retrieve the creative assets of a leading digital advertising and branding agency using Visual C++
